The Plano Public Library System is a department of the City of Plano, Texas. The system consists of four community libraries
serving citizens of Plano and Collin County. Holdings include approximately 500,000 books and magazines, audio visual materials
and a wide variety of resources and services.
The purpose of the Plano Public Library System is to make freely and readily available to the citizens of the community printed
and other materials and services which are responsive to their diverse, changing, and individual requirements for information and
which will aid them in the pursuit of education and recreation.
The Library seeks to promote programs which will stimulate and expand the reading interests of both children and adults and to
coordinate this work with that of other educational, cultural and social groups in the community.
The Library Advisory Board consists of seven members appointed by the City Council to act in an advisory capacity to the City
Council on matters relating to the public library. The term of office for the members of the Library Advisory Board is two years.
The City Council appoints the chairperson for a one-year period; the vice-chairperson and secretary are elected by Advisory Board
members for one-year terms. The current officers are: Chair, Robert Johntz; Vice-Chair, Frederic Frawley; and Secretary, Mary Long.
