With more than 250 sunny days a year, Plano is ideally suited for outdoor activities,
even through most of the winter. Golf is especially popular and is supported by the
proliferation of many new 'upscale' courses for private and public play. Although
only a few courses continue to sod for year-round green fairways, greens and tee boxes,
the courses play nicely all year long. Just be prepared to wear layers as protection
against the cool wind and the occasional brief shower. The Metroplex is home to
several annual professional golf tournaments in May and June, including the Byron Nelson
Classic in Irving, The Colonial in Fort Worth and the LPGA Skins Game in Frisco.
