Plano is culturally diverse and active community with something to please everyone's
tastes in music, art and dance. Art Centre in historic downtown Plano is host to
international artists of renown, as well as local and regional artists. Media
includes sculpture, oil, watercolor, ceramics, folk art, photography and jewelry.
With its renovated 160-seat theater, Art Center is the permanent home of the Plano
Reparatory Theatre. Director Jim Ware said, "All of the arts groups in Plano
are growing by leaps and bounds, with the quantity and quality of the art being produced
increasing rapidly. As a community, we are working together to obtain a world-class
performing arts center."
Other performing arts groups in Plano include the Plano Children's Theatre, the Plano
Metropolitan Ballet, the Plano Chamber Orchestra, the Plano Community Band, the Town North
Men of Notes, the Rich Tones, and the Younger Generation. Organizations which
support the visual arts are the Plano Art Association, the Plano Area Art Education
Association, the Plano Photography Club and the Classics. Plano's ease of access to
Dallas and Fort Worth affords residents the opportunity to enjoy concerts, musicals,
theater productions and art exhibitions of national and international renown. The
Dallas Museum of Art, African American Museum of Life Cultures, Meyerson Symphony Center,
McKinney Avenue Contemporary, among many others in Dallas, as well as the Kimball Art
Museum, Forth Worth Museum of Modern Art, and the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth provide
a wealth of cultural programs and exhibits.
