Private Schools
While Plano offers the finest in public education, there are excellent private schools
to meet student needs. Plano's private schools offer low teacher-student ratios
(1-15), disciplined formats and schools uniforms which have particular appeal to many
parents. These include a full-day Montessori school (K-6), full-day private
pre-schools and private kindergartens, and most feature extended care for working parents.
Schools offer a progressive curriculum in which the child learns at his/her own
pace. Accelerated children are not held back by slower students and the slower
students don't feel pushed or stressed, according to Patricia DeGroot, owner of DeGroot
Private Schools. Private schools meet all state requirements, and because of the
length of the child's stay, the teachers are able to implement enrichments programs with
hands-on math and science, computer technology, music, language development and
preparatory skills. Carol Frye, owner and director of the Primrose School of North
Plano agrees that keeping class sizes small enables children to receive individual
attention.
