Within Collin County, and the adjacent Denton and Dallas Counties, education at the
adult level for credit or non-credit is readily available. There are a number of
associate degree institutions, colleges and universities, as well as certification
programs. At the associate degree level, Collin County Community College has four
campuses within the county, offering students an opportunity to earn college credits
affordably. With many four-year colleges and universities located in the North Texas
area, community college provides as wise alternative for first and second year credit
course completion as well as continuing adult education. The following community

Known as the fourth largest school in Texas, the University of North Texas provides approximately 27,000 students with the opportunity to receive
bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a wide range of subjects. Along with the second largest must school in the nation, featuring the
only degree in jazz, and the largest school of visual art in the country, the public university has nine colleges and schools.

In 1961, the University of Texas at Dallas was founded as a graduate center, with strong emphasis on technical and scientific study. The
university has offered graduate degrees since 1969 and gained four-year undergraduate status in 1989. At the present time, more than 85
degree programs are offered through seven schools: arts and humanities, engineering and computer science, general studies, human development,
management, natural sciences, mathematics and social sciences. The internationally recognized Callier Center for Communication
Disorders is undergoing expansion with a new on-campus facility for research, training and clinical studies in hearing, speech and
language problems. Academic standards are high. This year the college boasts a freshman class with the highest average SAT scores
of any public university in Texas. The UTD Odyssey of the Mind team finished second in the world in their first-time effort to compete
in the Odyssey of the Mind international finals. The UTD College Bowl Team finished sixth in the nation competing with and often beating
universities such as Harvard, Rice and the University of Chicago in academic competitions.
